Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Toyota Tsusho or ‘the company’) is involved in the buying and selling of various goods in Japan and overseas. The company is also engaged in a wide range of business including manufacturing, processing and selling products, investments, and providing services. The company operates through 741 subsidiaries, and 250 affiliates in Asia, Oceania, North America, Central and South America, the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and Europe.

The company operates through seven business segments: Chemicals and Electronics; Metals; Machinery, Energy and Project; Automotive; Global Parts and Logistics; Food and Agribusiness; and Consumer Products and Services.

The Chemicals and Electronics segment sells and provides services for component parts for automobile production, electronic devices and semiconductors, modular product, automotive embedded software development, network integration and support, information communication equipment, overseas IT infrastructure exports, PCs, PC peripherals and software, and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) equipment. The segment also handles synthetic resins, rubber, batteries and electronic materials, fine and inorganic chemicals, fat and oil products, chemical additives, pharmaceuticals, and pharmaceutical ingredients. The segment processes, manufactures, sells and provides services relevant to the products listed above. In FY2016, the Chemicals and Electronics segment reported revenues of JPY1,929,740 million, which accounted for 23.6% of the company's total revenue.

The Metals segment mainly handles ordinary and special steel products, steel construction materials, nonferrous metal ingots and precious metals, rolled light-metal products, copper and copper alloy products, scrap iron and scrap nonferrous metals, ferroalloy products, wrought iron, recycling of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) and auto parts, waste catalyst, rare earth resources and rare metals. The segment manufactures, processes, sells, and disposes its products. In FY2016, the Metals segment reported revenues of JPY1,818,210 million, which accounted for 22.2% of the company's total revenue.

The Machinery, Energy and Project segment mainly handles machine tools, testing and measuring instruments, electronic machinery, environmental equipment, coal, crude oil, natural gas products, petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), water treatment, infrastructure projects, construction machinery, and industrial machinery. The segment sells and provides services relevant to the products, as well as running an energy and electric power supply business. In FY2016, the Machinery, Energy and Project segment reported revenues of JPY1,600,738 million, which accounted for 19.6% of the company's total revenue.

The Automotive segment mainly handles passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles, trucks and buses, and automotive parts. The segment sells and provides services for its products. In FY2016, the Automotive segment reported revenues of JPY1,252,364 million, which accounted for 15.3% of the company's total revenue.

The Global Parts and Logistics segment mainly manufactures, sells, and provides services for automotive parts, as well as running a logistics business and a tire assembly business. In FY2016, the Global Parts and Logistics segment reported revenues of JPY1,002,133 million, which accounted for 12.3% of the company's total revenue.

The Food and Agribusiness segment mainly handles livestock feed, grains, processed foods, food ingredients, agricultural, marine and livestock products, and alcoholic beverages. The segment manufactures, processes, sells, and provides services relevant to the products listed above. In FY2016, the Food and Agribusiness segment reported revenues of JPY416,239 million, which accounted for 5.1% of the company's total revenue.

The Consumer Products and Services segment mainly handles property, casualty and life insurance, brokered securities, textile products, apparel, nursing care and medical products, construction and housing materials, and office furniture. The segment sells and provides services relevant to the products listed above, as well as operates general hospitals and hotel residences. In FY2016, the Consumer Products and Services segment reported revenues of JPY158,921 million, which accounted for 1.9% of the company's total revenue.

Geographically, the company classifies its operations into three segments, namely Japan, China and Other. In FY2016, Japan segment accounted for 31.1% of the company's total revenues, followed by China with 13.6% and Other with 55.3%.
