The company's national grid includes 11,238 kilometers of high voltage transmission line, 68.4 kilometers of underground cable, 38 route kilometers of high voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable, 38,027 supporting towers and poles, 169 substations, and 323 transformers. The company also manages New Zealand's power system as system operator.
Transpower's subsidiaries include Risk Reinsurance, emsTradepoint, Halfway Bush Finance Limited, and TB and T.
The company's subsidiary, Risk Reinsurance, is an insurance subsidiary. It insures Transpower's material damage and cables insurance programs. It also reinsures risk related insurance with third party insurers. emsTradepoint is a commodity exchange designed to provide anonymity, transparent pricing and transactional certainty to physical energy markets. It offers natural gas contracts for delivery in New Zealand. Halfway Bush Finance Limited and TB and T are engaged in the holding of assets related to the company.
Transpower's projects include Demand response project, Otahuhu-Wiri transmission capacity investigation, North Taranaki interconnection investigation, Bunnythorpe-Haywards A and B conductor replacement project, Wilton 110 kV Bus rationalization project, Central Park-Wilton 'B' transmission capacity investigation, Upper South Island grid upgrade, Clutha Upper Waitaki lines project and Lower South Island grid reliability work
