The Mosaic Company (Mosaic) is one of the four largest potash producers in the world. The company is one of the leading producer and marketer of concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients, along with being the largest integrated phosphate producer in the world. It is also one of the largest producers and marketers of phosphate-based animal feed ingredients in North America. It serves customers in approximately 40 countries across the Americas, Asia Pacific and other regions of the world. Mosaic operates through three reportable business segments: phosphates, potash and international distribution. The phosphates segment of the company owns and operates mines and production facilities in Florida which produce concentrated phosphate crop nutrients and phosphate-based animal feed ingredients and processing plants in Louisiana which produce concentrated phosphate crop nutrients. The segment’s principal phosphate crop nutrient products are: diammonium phosphate (DAP), monoammonium phosphate (MAP) and MicroEssentials. The phosphate crop nutrient products are marketed worldwide to crop nutrient manufacturers, distributors, retailers and farmers. Production of Mosaic’s animal feed ingredients products is located at New Wales, Florida facility and the primary phosphate crop nutrient production facilities are located in central Florida and Louisiana. The company markets its feed phosphate primarily under Biofos and Nexfos brand names. Moreover, the US phosphates operations have capacity to produce approximately 5.3 million tons of phosphoric acid (P2O5) per year, or about 10% of world annual capacity and about 60% of North American annual capacity. As of December 31, 2016, the phosphates segment reported revenue of US$3,710.9 million or 46.8% of the company’s total revenue, excluding corporate elimination and other. The potash segment mines and processes potash in Canada and the US, and sells potash in North America and internationally. Its potash products are marketed worldwide to crop nutrient manufacturers, distributors, and retailers; and are also used in the manufacture of mixed crop nutrients and, to a lesser extent, in animal feed ingredients. The segment also sells potash to customers for industrial use. In addition, the company's potash products are used for de-icing and as a water softener regenerant. In 2015, Mosaic operated three potash mines in Canada, including two shaft mines with a total of three production shafts and one solution mine, as well as one potash shaft mine in the US. It also own related refineries at each of the mines. The current potash annualized operational capacity totaled 10.5 million tons of product per year and potash production totaled 8.4 million tons. Also the recoverable potash ore reserves totaled 2,022 million tons and non-reserve potash mineralization totaled 3,698 million tons in FY2015. As of December 31, 2016, the potash segment reported revenue of US$1,685.7 million or 21.3% of the company’s total revenue, excluding corporate elimination and other. Mosaic's international distribution segment includes sales offices, port terminals and warehouses in the US, Canada, and several other key international countries. In addition, the international distribution activities include blending, bagging or production facilities in Brazil, China, India and Paraguay. The segment serves as a distribution outlet for the Phosphates and Potash segments and also purchases and markets certain products from other suppliers, generally to complement sales of Mosaic’s own product. As of December 31, 2016, the international distribution segment reported revenue of US$2,533.5 million or 31.9% of the company’s total revenue, excluding corporate elimination and other. Geographically, Mosaic classifies its operations into two regions: the US and International. In FY2016, the company generated 62.6% of its total revenue from International region and the remaining 37.4% from the US region.
