Tereos (or ‘the group’) is a producer of sugars, starches, and bio-ethanol products. The company is engaged in processing agricultural raw materials into sugar, alcohol and starch. It markets a range of sugars, starches, and bio-ethanol, along with by-products used for animal feed and power generation. The company markets its products under Beghin-Say, Acucar Guarani, La Perruche, Guarani, Bourbon, Reunion, TTD, and Ligne Sucre et Stevia brands. The group has over 12,000 co-operative members. It has 49 industrial sites, in 13 countries across four continents. The group operates through three business areas: sugar beet; cereals; and sugarcane. Tereos' sugar beet business engages in the processing of sugar beet to produce sugar, alcohol, bioethanol and pulp. Sugar refined from beet is sold to consumers, wholesalers, and also to industry in the form of crystallized and household sugars, liquid sugars, fondants, and fructo-oligosaccharides. The group also provides alcohol produced by fermenting beet juice or low purity syrups. The product is then rectified to produce pure alcohol or rectified and dehydrated to produce pure alcohol. Pulp is manufactured as the fibrous by-product of the juice extraction process, and primarily caters to the animal feed market. The bioethanol is produced from the substrates of agricultural raw materials (low purity juice or syrup). It also produces co-products that are rich in energy (beet pulp, sugarcane bagasse) or protein (brewer's grain), which can be used in animal feed instead of imported soybean cake. During FY2017, Tereos processed 19.8 million metric tons of sugar beets to produce more than two million metric tons of sugar and 675,000 cubic meters of alcohol and ethanol in 12 sugar factories and eight distilleries in France, the Czech Republic, Romania and one refinery in Spain. Tereos' cereals business offers products such as starch, glucose and its derivatives, traditional alcohols, ethanol, and co-products. The group's starch processing plants produces a number of co-products including wheat and corn gluten, corn feed, wheat feed, cereal germs, and hydrolyzed proteins. The group processed 4.4 million metric tons of raw materials (corn, maize, potatoes and manioc) into more than two million metric tons of starch products (sweeteners and starches) and 467,000 cubic meters of alcohol and ethanol in its 12 factories in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the UK, Brazil, China and Indonesia. The production of the starch products totaled 2.1 Mt in FY2017. The group's sugarcane business is involved in the production of sugar, alcohol, and bagasse. It provides raw crystallized sugar and white crystallized sugar. The group also offers alcohol that is also used to produce anhydrous or hydrated ethanol for use as fuel. Its bagasse is used as a fuel to generate the electricity needed to run the factories. Tereos’s business areas are divided into three segments including sugar beet, sugarcane, and cereals.
