Tencent Holdings Limited (Tencent or "the group") operates a range of integrated internet platforms offering various services, including communications, social networking, online games, information, and video content. The group primarily operates in China. The group operates through three business segments: Value-Added Services (VAS), Online Advertising, and Others. The VAS segment is engaged in the provision of online games and community VAS and applications across various internet and mobile platforms. In FY2016, the VAS segment reported revenues of CNY107,810 million, which accounted for 71% of the group's total revenue. The online advertising segment displays advertisements to the delivery of pay-for click, pay-for download or pay-for instant display advertisements. In FY2016, the Online Advertising segment reported revenues of CNY26,970 million, which accounted for 17.8% of the group's total revenue. The Others segment primarily comprises payment related services, cloud services and other services. In FY2016, the Others segment reported revenues of CNY17,158 million, which accounted for 11.3% of the group's total revenue. Tencent operations are divided into six business lines: social networks, payment, entertainment, information, utilities, and platform services. The group's Social Network business line offers various instant messaging (IM) platforms, including Tencent QQ; Weixin/WeChat; and Qzone. Tencent QQ is an IM platform for personal computer (PC) and mobile. The platform allows the users to communicate through text, video, pictures and stickers, and also through personalized avatars, chatting bubbles and profile photo widgets. In addition, the platform allows users to access QQ wallet and make mobile payment including mobile top-up, online shopping and bank transfer. Weixin/WeChat integrates instant messaging and social entertainment through an application (app). The features include communications through free text and multimedia messages, video calls, photo sharing and other recreational features include games, stickers gallery and friend-adding services such as Shake and People Nearby. Also, Weixin/WeChat offers enterprises Official Accounts to create original consumer experiences through its open platform and extended services such as Weixin/WeChat Pay for a mobile digital lifestyle. Qzone, a social networking platform which provides peer interaction and entertainment. The Payment business line comprises various payment platforms which includes Tenpay, Weixin/WeChat Pay and QQ Wallet. Tenpay is an online payment platform in China. The platform supports online payment transactions for individuals and corporate users with secure and professional services. Weixin/WeChat Pay is a payment solution which enables its users to have quick payment transactions on their mobile phones. QQ Wallet is a mobile payment product which includes multiple payment methods such as bank card payment, QR code payment and NFC payment. QQ Wallet is an open platform incorporating payment, life services, government services, financial services, public services and other services. The group’s Entertainment business line comprises Tencent Games, China Reading Limited, Tencent Comic, Tencent Pictures, QQ Music, Penguin e-Sports, NOW Live and Interest Tribe. Tencent Games is an online games community in China which is an online game developer and operator. China Reading Limited (Tencent Literature) is a literature online reading platform for Internet users. It provides accessible reading experience for users across PC and mobile. Tencent Comic is an online animation platform. Tencent Pictures allows celebrities to share their self-created IP with fans on the platform. It is an open platform service which promotes cross-border cooperation, connects artists and their IP to domestic and international production and distribution companies. QQ Music is an online music platform and provider of digital music services in China. Penguin e-Sports is a mobile e-sports live streaming platform. Penguin e-Sports enables users to watch live streaming videos from game hosts, establish e-sports competitions, acquire e-sports information, and mobile e-sports experience. NOW Live is a mobile live streaming application which allows its users to capture and broadcast live on mobile devices at anytime and anywhere. Interest Tribe is the interest-based social networking platform in China. Tencent’s Information business line comprises QQ.com, Tencent News, Tencent Video and Tencent Microblog. The group’s Utilities business line comprises YingYongBao, which provides personalized mobile applications and games; QQ Browser, a browser which provides users with quick access to Internet; Tencent Mobile Manager, a mobile security and management software which provides mobile speed acceleration, mobile data monitoring and other phone management functions; Tencent PC Manager, an online security software which includes protection from viruses and computer management; Tencent Map provides users with digital map content, navigation and location-based service solutions and QQ Mail provides pop up notifications, a blog reader, 1G-sized attachments, audio and video messages among other features. Tencent’s Platform business line includes Tencent Open Platform and Tencent Cloud. Tencent Open Platform enables its partners to connect with QQ, Weixin, Qzone, and YingYongBao and gain traffic and revenue through open APIs across PC, mobile and multiple devices. Tencent Cloud is a public cloud platform for corporate and individual users. It provides developers with cloud servers, cloud databases, cloud storage, CDN and other basic cloud computing services, as well as various industry solutions including online games, video, and mobile applications. Geographically, the group classifies its operations into two segments, namely Mainland China and Others. In FY2016, Mainland China segment accounted for 95% of the group's total revenues, followed by others with 5%.
