Tempur Sealy is engaged in the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of mattresses, pillows and other bedding products. The company sells its products under the brands, Tempur, Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Sealy Posturepedic, Cocoon by Sealy, and Stearns & Foster. The Sealy Posturepedic brand also features Posturepedic Technology in the Sealy Performance and Sealy Premium collections. The company operates through two business segments: North America and International. The North America segment consists of Tempur and Sealy manufacturing and distribution subsidiaries, joint ventures and licensees located in the US and Canada. The international segment consists of Tempur and Sealy manufacturing and distribution subsidiaries, joint ventures and licensees located in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. In FY2016, the North America segment reported revenue of USD2,570.1 million, which accounted for 82.2% of the company's total revenue and the International segment reported revenue of USD557.2 million, which accounted for 17.8% of the company's total revenue. The company sells its products through two distribution channels in each segment: retail and other. The retail channel sells products to furniture and bedding retailers, department stores and warehouse clubs, among others. The other channel sells products directly to consumers through e-commerce platforms, company-owned stores and call centers, and to third party distributors, as well as healthcare and hospitality divisions. The company uses third party distributors in countries where it does not sell directly through its own subsidiaries. The healthcare division serves hospitals, nursing homes, healthcare professionals and medical retailers, while the hospitality division includes sales to hotels. The company has four research and development (R&D) centers, three in the US and one in Denmark. Geographically, the company classifies its operations into three segments, namely the US, Canada and Other International Countries. In FY2016, the US segment accounted for 75.5% of the company's total revenues; followed by Canada with 6.7%; and Other International Countries with 17.8%.
