Telefonica S.A. (Telefonica or "the company") is one of the world's largest telecommunications company with a diversified telecommunications network that provides a range of services. The company offers wireline, wireless, DSL, TV, and other digital services. Telefonica has operations in 21 countries including Spain, Germany and Hispanoamerica. By the end of FY2016, the company catered to 349.9 million accesses, including 38.3 million fixed-line accesses, 21.6 million internet and data accesses, 276.5 million mobile accesses and 8.3 million pay television (Pay-TV) accesses. Additionally, Telefonica catered to 5.3 million wholesale accesses.

The company operates through five business segments: Telefonica Spain, Telefonica Brazil, Telefonica Germany, Telefonica UK and Telefonica Hispanoamerica. These segments are engaged in providing wireless, wireline, cable, internet, television businesses and other digital services.

Telefonica Spain offers fixed telephony, internet and data, mobile communications, Pay-TV, and wholesale services in Spain. At the end of FY2016, Telefonica Spain had 41.2 million total accesses, including 9.7 million fixed-line accesses, 17.2 million mobile accesses, and 4.5 million wholesale accesses. In FY2016, the Telefonica Spain segment reported revenues of E12,410 million, which accounted for 24.8% of the company's total revenue.

Telefonica Brazil manages the company's telecommunications operations in Brazil. At the end of FY2016, the segment had 97.2 million accesses, including 14.3 million fixed-line accesses, 73.7 million mobile accesses, and 17.9 million wholesale accesses. In FY2016, the Telefonica Brazil segment reported revenues of E11,067 million, which accounted for 22.1% of the company's total revenue.

Telefonica Germany serves the German market. At the end of FY2016, the segment had 49.3 million accesses, including 2 million fixed-line accesses, 44.3 million mobile accesses, and 691,000 wholesale accesses. In FY2016, the Telefonica Germany segment reported revenues of E7,460 million, which accounted for 14.9% of the company's total revenue.

Telefonica UK provides fixed telephony, internet and data, and mobile communications in the UK. At the end of FY2016, Telefonica UK had 25.8 million total access, including 3.3 million M2M mobile accesses. In FY2016, the Telefonica UK segment reported revenues of E6,822 million, which accounted for 13.6% of the company's total revenue.

Telefonica Hispanoamerica oversees the fixed and mobile telephony services, broadband, internet, data, broadband, television, value added services operations and their development in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and Central America, Ecuador and Uruguay. At the end of FY2016, Telefonica Hispanoamerica had 135.9 million total accesses. In FY2016, the Telefonica Hispanoamerica segment reported revenues of E12,337 million, which accounted for 24.6% of the company's total revenue.

The company operates through three business lines: mobile business, fixed-line telephony business and digital services.

Telefonica offers a variety of mobile and related services and products to personal and business customers. The company's mobile offerings include mobile voice services; value added services including voice mail, call hold, call waiting, call forwarding and three-way calling; and mobile data and internet services, including short messaging service (SMS), multimedia messaging service (MMS), and mobile broadband connectivity and internet access. Telefonica also offers wholesale services; corporate services, including mobile infrastructure in offices, private networking and portals for corporate customers that provide flexible online billing; roaming; fixed wireless services; and trunking and paging services.

The company's fixed businesses in Europe and Latin America offers traditional fixed telecommunication services, including public switched telephone network (PSTN) lines; integrated services for digital network (ISDN) accesses; public telephone services; local, domestic and international long-distance and fixed-to-mobile communications services; corporate communications services; supplementary value-added services (including call waiting, call forwarding, voice and text messaging, advanced voicemail services and conference-call facilities); video telephony; business oriented value added services; intelligent network services; leasing and sale of handset equipment; and telephony information services.

Telefonica also offers internet and broadband multimedia services including internet service provider (ISP) service; portal and network services; retail and wholesale broadband access through asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), naked ADSL (broadband connection without the same yearly fixed line fee); and narrowband switched access. It also offers high-speed Internet services through fiber to the home (FTTH) in certain markets (primarily Spain, Brazil and Chile) and VDSL-based services (primarily Spain and Germany). Telefonica also offers voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services in some markets. The data and business solutions services include leased lines; virtual private network (VPN) services; fiber optics services; the provision of hosting and application service, including web hosting, managed hosting, content delivery and application, and security services; outsourcing and consultancy services, including network management; and desktop services and system integration and professional services. The company provides its wholesale services for telecommunications operators which include domestic interconnection services; international wholesale services; leased lines for other operators' network deployment; and local loop leasing. In addition, the company provides bit stream services, bit stream naked, wholesale line rental accesses and leased ducts for other operators' fiber deployment.

Telefonica digital offerings include video/television services, which include internet protocol television (IPTV) services, over-the-top (OTT) network television services, and cable and satellite television. In certain markets, the company offers advanced Pay-TV services such as high-definition television (HDTV), Multiroom, Digital Video Recording (DVR), Multiscreen, CatchUp contents, third party contents and cloud video services. Its Internet of Things (IoT) portfolio services include smart connectivity services including horizontal services through two different connectivity platforms, SmartM2M and Jasper, smart services solutions to four pre-defined specific vertical sectors: cities, mobility, energy and retail, and personal IoT services focused on the business to consumer (B2C) segment, supporting usual healthcare, safety and fitness practice through different electronic and communication processes. It also includes financial services and other payment services that allow final customers and financial institutions to make money transfers, payments and mobile recharges; security services such as managed security, cloud and communications security and cybersecurity; cloud computing services to large enterprises focused on managed services; advertising products such as programmatic display and sponsored connectivity; big data products such as Smart Steps, which helps retailers, municipalities and public security bodies to understand the influx of people.

Geographically, the company classifies its operations into eleven segments, namely Spain; Brazil; Germany; the UK; Argentina; Peru; Chile; Mexico; Colombia; Venezuela and Central America; and Hispanoamerica. In FY2016, Spain segment accounted for 20.3% of the company's total revenues, followed by Brazil with 17.7%; Germany with 12%; the UK with 11%; Argentina with 4.8%; Peru with 4%; Chile with 3.5%; Mexico with 2.3%; Colombia with 2.3%; Venezuela and Central America with 2.1%; and Hispanoamerica with 20.1%.
