Teijin Limited (Teijin or 'the company') provides a range of services and products, from fibers and textiles to pharmaceuticals and home healthcare products. Teijin is comprised of 153 subsidiaries, of which 60 are in Japan and 93 are located overseas. The company operates in Asia, the Americas, Europe and other regions of the world.
Teijin operates its business through four business segments: Trading and Retail; Electronics Materials and Performance Polymer Products; Healthcare; and Advanced Fibers and Composites. In addition to these business segments, the company has Other Operations.
The company's Trading and Retail segment is engaged in the trading and retail of polyester filaments and other fibers and polymer products. The segment’s operations include: sale and international trading of fiber materials, textiles and apparel, industrial textiles and materials, and films and plastics. It also offers polyester and recycled polyester fabrics and textiles and closed-loop recycling of polyester products.
In FY2016, the Trading and Retail segment reported revenues of JPY270,934 million, which accounted for 34.3% of the company's total revenue.
The Electronics Materials and Performance Polymer Products segment produces and sells films and resins for various industrial applications. The principal product includes polycarbonate resin and polyester film. It also offers polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) resin and PEN film.
In FY2016, the Electronics Materials and Performance Polymer Products segment reported revenues of JPY163,699 million, which accounted for 20.7% of the company's total revenue.
The Healthcare segment is engaged in the production and sales of prescription and non-prescription drugs, and production, sales and rental of home healthcare devices. The home healthcare devices includes therapeutic oxygen concentrators, non-invasive positive pressure ventilator (NPPV) for sufferers of sleep apnea syndrome (SAS), positive pressure ventilators for sufferers of SAS as well as the Sonic Accelerated Fracture Healing System for bone and joint disease.
In pharmaceuticals business, the company offers treatment for osteoporosis in the bone and joint diseases. Similarly, in respiratory diseases, it provides expectorant and treatment for bronchial asthma; in cardiovascular and metabolic disease, it provides treatments for hyperuricemia and gout, as well as hyperlipidemia. In addition, it provides treatment for severe infectious diseases and laxatives.
In FY2016, the Healthcare segment reported revenues of JPY147,501 million, which accounted for 18.7% of the company's total revenue.
The Advanced Fibers and Composites segment of the company is engaged in the production and sale of aramid fibers, carbon fibers, polyester fibers and composites for industrial applications. The principal products includes aramid fibers, carbon fibers, oxidized PAN Fiber, polyester fibers, PEN fibers and high-grade artificial leather.
In FY2016, the Advanced Fibers and Composites segment reported revenues of JPY133,017 million, which accounted for 16.8% of the company's total revenue.
The Other Operations of the company include IT and Internet services along with new businesses.
In FY2016, the Other Operations segment reported revenues of JPY75,597 million, which accounted for 9.5% of the company's total revenue.
Geographically, the company classifies its operations into five geographies, namely Japan, China, Asia, Americas, Europe and Others. In FY2016, Japan segment accounted for 59.9% of the company's total revenues, followed by China with 14.8%; Asia with 9.7%; Americas with 7.2%; Europe and Others with 8.5%.
