Canadian Utilities Limited , an ATCO company, is a holding company that provides services to companies engaged in utilities (pipelines, natural gas, and electricity transmission and distribution), energy (power generation, natural gas gathering, processing, storage, and liquids extraction) and structures and logistics (manufacturing, logistics, and noise abatement). The company operates in Canada, Australia and Mexico.

Canadian Utilities operates through three business segments: electricity, pipelines and liquids, and corporate and other.

The electricity segment is comprised of the generation, distribution and transmission businesses of ATCO Electric, ATCO Power and ATCO Power Australia.

ATCO Electric builds, owns and operates electrical transmission and distribution facilities in east-central and northern Alberta. ATCO Electric also includes Canadian Utilities (CU) which provides a wide range of industrial and commercial services, the majority of which are focused on energy. ATCO Electric Yukon serves more than 17,000 customers in 19 communities in the Yukon and 11,000 customers in nine communities in the NWT. In addition, the company owns and operates the Fish Lake Hydro Plant with a capacity of 1.3 megawatts (MW).

ATCO Power is engaged in developing, constructing and operating gas-fired, cogeneration, combined-cycle, hydro and coal-fired generating stations. It owns and operates 13 power generation plants in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, with a combined capacity of 3,591 MW and total ownership interest in 2,286 MW.

ATCO Power Australia is engaged in developing, building, owning and operating energy infrastructure assets across Australia. ATCO Power Australia has ownership in and operates two power generation facilities in the country Osborne, a 180 MW combined cycle facility in South Australia, and Karratha Power Station, a 86 MW power generation facility in the mining-dominated Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The pipelines and liquids segment is comprised of ATCO Gas, ATCO Pipelines, ATCO Gas Australia, ATCO Energy Solutions and ATCO Pipelines Mexico.

ATCO Gas distributes natural gas throughout Alberta and in the Lloydminster area of Saskatchewan. This subsidiary serves more than 1.1 million customers in nearly 300 Alberta communities. ATCO Gas owns and operates more than 40,000 kilometers (kms) of distribution mains. It also owns service and maintenance facilities in major centers in Alberta. In 2015, ATCO Gas provided more than 300,000 gas line locates to support safe digging practices across the province.

ATCO Pipelines owns and operates natural gas transmission pipelines and facilities in Alberta which delivers natural gas. ATCO Pipelines natural gas transmission system currently consists of approximately 8,500 kms of pipelines, approximately 4,000 receipt and delivery points, and a salt cavern storage peaking facility near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The system has 197 producer receipt points, four interconnections with Alliance Pipeline, and one interconnection with Many Islands Pipelines.

ATCO Gas Australia owns and operates the largest regulated gas distribution network in Western Australia. It also operates two separate non-regulated gas distribution networks, one serving the mining center of Kalgoorlie and the second, a liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) distribution network serving Albany.

ATCO Energy Solutions role in the pipelines and liquids global business unit is to build, own and operate natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGL) and industrial water related infrastructure to serve the midstream sector of Western Canada’s energy industry. The company offers tailored solutions for product storage, processing and transportation that provide customers with exceptional business value.

ATCO Energy Solutions also owns a commercial natural gas storage facility, which it has more than 45 years of experience operating. Located near Carbon, Alberta, the facility features 23 storage wells with a working gas capacity of 52 petajoules and is connected to multiple transmission pipelines in the area.

Under the ATCO Pipelines Mexico, the company is undertaking Ramal Tula Gas Pipeline in Mexico to develop new pipeline infrastructure and enable the country to move towards a self-sustaining, cleaner energy future. When complete, the 16 km pipeline will transport natural gas to the CFE’s Francisco Perez Rios thermoelectric power plant, enabling the production of cleaner energy at considerably reduced costs.

The corporate and other segment includes the strategic growth investments in long-term contracted electricity transmission infrastructure in Alberta and geographical expansion into Mexico. In addition, the segment includes the commercial real estate owned by the company in Alberta. The segment also includes ATCO Real Estate Holdings, a subsidiary of Canadian Utilities, owns commercial real estate in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Fort Saskatchewan, and Stettler, all in Alberta.

In addition, the segment includes its 24.5% equity investment in ATCO Structures & Logistics. ATCO Structures & Logistics provide complete infrastructure solutions to customers worldwide. The four core business include: modular structures, lodging and support services, logistics and facility operations and maintenance services (O&M), and sustainable communities.
