EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttenberg AG (EnBW or 'the company') is one of the largest energy supply companies in Germany. The company sold 52.3 billion kilowatt hour (kWh) of gas and 43.2 billion kWh of electricity in FY2016. The segment served a total of 5.5 million customers in FY2016.
In FY2016, the Sales segment reported revenues of EUR7,771.1 million, which accounted for 40.2% of the company's total revenue.
The Grids segment encompasses the transmission and distribution of electricity and gas as well as the provision of grid-related services including the operation of grids for third parties. The segment is also involved in the supply of water and the security of supply and system stability. The company transported 64.5 billion kWh of electricity and 33 billion kWh of gas in FY2016. EnBW operated a total of 153,000 kilometers of electricity transmission and distribution grid and a total length of 17,000 kilometers of gas transmission and distribution grid.
In FY2016, the Grids segment reported revenues of EUR6,643.7 million, which accounted for 34.3% of the company's total revenue.
The Generation and Trading segment encompasses electricity generation and the trading of gas and electricity, the provision of system services for the operators of transmission grids, the gas midstream business, district heating, environmental services and the dismantling of power plants. This segment is primarily based on the generation of electricity and heat from the company's coal, gas, pumped storage and nuclear power plants. In FY2016, the company generated a total of 45,581 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity and had an installed output of 12,010 megawatts (MW).
In FY2016, the Generation and Trading segment reported revenues of EUR4,433.9 million, which accounted for 22.9% of the company's total revenue.
The Renewable Energies segment is engaged in project development and management, construction and operation of renewable energy power plants. In the area of power generation from renewable energy, the company utilize the natural resources of water, wind and sun. In FY2016, the company generated a total of 6,870 GWh of electricity and had an installed output of 1,504 MW.
In FY2016, the Renewable Energies segment reported revenues of EUR510.6 million, which accounted for 2.6% of the company's total revenue.
Geographically, the company classifies its operations into four segments, namely Germany, European currency zone excluding Germany, Rest of Europe, and Rest of world. In FY2016, Germany segment accounted for 93.9% of the company's total revenues, followed by European currency zone excluding Germany with 1%; and Rest of Europe with 5.1%.
