Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT or 'the company') is Thailand's leading state-owned power utility. The company's primary operations include generation, procurement, transmission, and distribution of electricity. EGAT is also engaged in offering engineering and construction service, operation and maintenance service, and inspection service of gas turbines. The company primarily operates in Thailand.

In FY2015, the company's installed generation capacity totaled 15,548.1 megawatts (MW) including 3,647 MW of thermal, 8,382 MW of combined cycle, 3,448.4 MW of hydro, 30.4 MW of diesel and 40.3 MW of renewable energy.

EGAT operates through a single operating segment: generating, acquiring, transmission or distribution electric energy, including other business.

EGAT owns and operates various types of power plants located in 45 sites countrywide. Its power generation facilities consist of three thermal power plants, six combined cycle power plants, 24 hydropower plants, eight renewable energy plants, and four diesel power plant.

During the year, EGAT's purchased power capacity included 14,766.7 MW from domestic independent power producers (IPPs) representing 38 % of the country's total generating capacity; 5,137 MW or 13.2% from small power producers (SPPs); and 3,386.60 MW or 8.7% imported from neighboring countries.

Additionally, the total net energy reached 183,466.8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) in FY2015. During FY2015, its energy sales totaled 179,537.4 million kWh which included 51,577.4 million kWh sold to the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), 124,376.1 million kWh to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), 1,621.7 million kWh to direct customers and neighboring countries (Lao PDR, Malaysia, and Cambodia), and 193.4 million kWh to other customers purchasing electricity for temporary and standby use.

EGAT's transmission network comprises transmission lines of 32,993.7 circuit-kilometers with 215 substations, 575 delivery points, and a total transformer capacity of 94,361.4 mega volt ampere (MVA).

Moreover, EGAT also provides engineering and construction service for Nam Ngiep 1 power plant and provides operation and maintenance service to Hongsa Lignite Fired Power Plant Project. Also, the company provides maintenance services for transmission equipment of substations and high-voltage transmission lines, training, together with sale and service of substation equipment to domestic IPPs and SPPs as well as those of neighboring countries.
