Deutsche Bank AG (DB or 'the company') is a provider of products and services related to investment, corporate, and retail banking as well as in asset and wealth management. The company operates in Europe, Africa, Asia pacific, the Middle East, and the Americas.

During FY2016, DB reported its business through six business segments: Global Markets; Private, Wealth and Commercial Clients; Corporate and Investment Banking; Postbank; Deutsche Asset Management; and Non-Core Operations Unit.

DB's Global Markets segment combines the sales, trading and structuring of a wide range of financial markets’ products, including bonds, equities and equity-linked products, exchange-traded and over-the-counter derivatives, foreign exchange, money market instruments, and structured products. The coverage of the institutional clients is provided by the Institutional Client Group and Equity Sales, while the research provides the analysis of markets, products and trading strategies for clients. In FY2016, the Global Markets segment reported revenues of E9,290.0 million, which accounted for 30.5% of the company's total revenue.

The Private, Wealth and Commercial Clients segment combines the company's expertise in private and commercial banking as well as in wealth management solutions. DB offers high-quality advice and a wide range of financial services in both the bank’s home market in Germany and internationally. The Private and Commercial Clients Germany (PCC Germany) business unit focuses on private and commercial clients in Germany. For small and medium-sized corporate clients, the business unit offers a commercial banking coverage model. Moreover, the Private and Commercial Clients International (PCC International) business unit provides banking and other financial services to private, commercial and corporate clients in Europe and India. In Europe, the business unit operates in five major banking markets: Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and Poland. The Wealth Management business unit serves wealth, high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals and family offices, offering its clients traditional and alternative investment products and solutions, as well as lending and deposit products. The company also provides capital markets expertise and international solutions tailored to the individual needs of the clients. In FY2016, the Private, Wealth And Commercial Clients segment reported revenues of E7,717.0 million, which accounted for 25.3% of the company's total revenue.

The Corporate and Investment Banking segment serves DB’s commercial banking, corporate finance, and transaction banking expertise under one common corporate division. It consists of the corporate finance and global transaction banking businesses. The segment advises and executes on the multiple financial requirements of its corporate and institutional clients. The corporate finance also includes mergers and acquisitions (M&A) as well as debt and equity advisory and origination. The advisory extends to the public takeovers, defense advisory, mergers and divestitures, dual track sales processes, business portfolio reviews and acquisition searches, competitor strategies and analyses, balance sheet optimization and corporate governance. In FY2016, the Corporate And Investment Banking segment reported revenues of E7,483.0 million, which accounted for 24.5% of the company's total revenue.

The Postbank segment is a German financial service provider for retail, business and corporate clients as well as for other financial service providers. As a multi-channel bank, Postbank provides its products in its German-wide network of branches, through mobile sales agents, direct banking (online and mobile) and call centers as well as in third party sales through agents. The company also offers postal and parcel services in its branches in cooperation with Deutsche Post DHL AG. The segment focuses on retail banking and corporate banking (transaction banking and financing) in Germany. Moreover, in retail banking, the segment offers its retail and business customers’ standardized banking and financial service products designed to meet all basic financial needs. Its core products are current accounts, saving accounts, mortgage loans, building society contracts and consumer loans. In corporate banking Postbank focuses mainly on German SMEs. Its core products are corporate loans, international commercial real estate finance, payment transaction services, factoring and leasing as well as interest rate and currency management. The segment also operates 1,043 locations in Germany and as well as a branch in Luxembourg. In FY2016, the Postbank segment reported revenues of E3,366.0 million, which accounted for 11.0% of the company's total revenue.

The company's Deutsche Asset Management segment includes both active and passive strategies and a diverse array of asset classes including equities, fixed income, liquidity, real estate, infrastructure, private equity, and sustainable investments. The segment also delivers alpha and beta solutions to address the longevity, liability and liquidity needs of investors, leveraging intelligence and technology. In FY2016, the Deutsche Asset Management segment reported revenues of E3,020.0 million, which accounted for 9.9% of the company's total revenue.

The company's non-core operations unit (NCOU) segment’s portfolio included activities that are non-core to the company’s strategy going forward, assets materially affected by business, environment, legal or regulatory changes, assets earmarked for de-risking, assets suitable for separation, assets with significant capital absorption but low returns, and assets exposed to legal risks.

Geographically, the company classifies its operations into five segments, namely Germany, the UK, Americas, Asia Pacific, Rest of Europe, Middle East and Africa. In FY2016, Germany segment accounted for 34.8% of the company's total revenues, followed by the UK with 16.1%; Americas with 22.4%; Asia Pacific with 12.3%; and Rest of Europe, Middle East and Africa with 14.5%.
