Deutsche Bahn AG (DB or 'the company') is a Germany based transport and logistics services provider. It provides various mobility, transport, and logistics services. The company operates through 632 subsidiaries in 130 countries. DB operates 126 subsidiaries in Germany and the remaining 506 overseas.
The company operates through nine business segments: DB Schenker, DB regional, DB Arriva, DB Cargo, DB long-distance, DB Netze track, DB Netze stations, DB services, and subsidiaries/other.
All global logistics activities of DB which comprise, freight forwarding, transport and other global goods and freight services, are operated under the DB Schenker segment. This segment offers land transport, worldwide air and ocean freight services, as well as contract logistics and supply chain management solutions to industrial and trade customers.
The DB regional segment is engaged in regional bus and rail transport activities in Germany. Its rail transport business offers connections to major metropolitan areas as well as rural destinations through its extensive regional transport network. The segment also includes the S-Bahn (metro) operations in Berlin and Hamburg. During FY2015, the rail passenger transport activities of the DB regional segment carried 2,251 million passengers, including 2,014 million in Germany, and covered 88,636 million passenger kilometers (pkm). During the same period, the bus passenger transport activities carried 2,055 million passengers and covered 7,994 million pkm.
The company's DB Arriva segment offers transportation services outside Germany. DB Arriva is active in 14 European countries, including Denmark, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and Hungary. During FY2015, this segment carried 1,633 million passengers and produced a volume of 132.7 million train kilometers.
DB, through its DB Cargo segment, provides rail freight transportation services. The company primarily operates this segment in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, France, Poland, and Spain. The segment offers block train, single wagon, and combined transport services, as well as special know-how in the iron, coal and steel (Montan), chemicals, mineral oil, agriculture, forestry, consumer goods, construction materials, and waste disposal industries. During FY2015, the segment carried 300.2 million tons of freight and a volume of 98,445 million ton-kilometers (tkm).
The company's DB long-distance segment offers national and cross- border rail transport services and other passenger transport services in rail passenger transport. It also offers car transport and night train transport services through DB AutoZug. During FY2015, this segment carried 133 million rail passengers and covered 36,975 million pkm.
The DB Netze Track segment is responsible for installing, maintaining and operating the complete track-related rail infrastructure in Germany. During FY2015, the segment had 1,053 million train-path kilometers of track infrastructure.
The company's DB Netze stations business segment is engaged in the operation of passenger stations and traffic stations as well as the development and marketing of train station areas in Germany. During FY2015, the segment operated 147.8 million station stops. During the same year, DB operated 33,332 kilometers length of railway track.
The company's DB services business segment provides transport-related infrastructure management and infrastructure-linked services. The segment provides services mainly for DB group companies in the areas of vehicle maintenance, information technology, telecommunications services, facility management, security services and fleet management.
The subsidiaries and other segment comprise the management, financing and service functions of Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) and DB ML AG. In addition, this segment also comprises DB Energie GmbH, and the other subsidiaries and remaining activities.
