Denso conducts its business operations primarily through six segments: Powertrain Control Systems; Thermal Systems; Information and Safety Systems; Electronic Systems; Small Motors; and New Business.

The Powertrain Control Systems segment is engaged in the development and production of gasoline and diesel engine control systems and related products, hybrid and electric car drive systems, power supply and related products, power supply and starting system parts such as alternators and starters. In FY2016, the Powertrain Control Systems segment reported revenues of JPY1,619,700 million, which accounted for 36.3% of the company's total revenue.

The Thermal Systems segment is involved in the development and production of air conditioning systems for cars and buses, truck refrigeration units, air purifiers and related air conditioning products, radiators, and cooling systems. In FY2016, the Thermal Systems segment reported revenues of JPY1,409,900 million, which accounted for 31.6% of the company's total revenue.

Denso's Information and Safety Systems segment develops and manufactures a wide range of human machine interface (HMI), information and communications, body electronics, advanced safety, collision safety, vehicle motion control, and related fields. In FY2016, the Information And Safety Systems segment reported revenues of JPY689,300 million, which accounted for 15.5% of the company's total revenue.

The Electronic Systems segment is engaged in the development and production of electronic products and in-car semiconductor sensors for engine control computers as well as of microelectronic devices such as integrated circuits. In FY2016, the Electronic Systems segment reported revenues of JPY372,200 million, which accounted for 8.3% of the company's total revenue.

Denso's Small Motors segment is involved in the development and manufacture of all types of small motors, including windshield wiper systems, power windows, power seats, power steering, motors for engine control systems, blowers, and cooling fans. In FY2016, the Small Motors segment reported revenues of JPY306,600 million, which accounted for 6.9% of the company's total revenue.

The company’s New Business segment develops and manufactures consumer products and other products such as industrial products for industrial robots (for which Denso Wave Inc. is responsible) and CO2 refrigerant heat pump water heaters. In FY2016, the New Business segment reported revenues of JPY62,400 million, which accounted for 1.4% of the company's total revenue.

Geographically, the company classifies its operations into five geographies, namely Japan, North America, Asia, Europe, and Others. In FY2016, Japan accounted for 39.8% of the company's total revenues, followed by North America with 23.9%; Asia with 22.4%; Europe with 12.6%; and Others with 1.3%.
