Denka Company Limited, formerly Denki Kagaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (Denka or “the group”) is a chemicals manufacturer engaged in the production and distribution of a range of chemical products from inorganic and organic materials to electronic materials and processed resin products. Denka also produces fertilizers, cement, special cement additives, and semiconductor-related electronic materials. The group operates in Asia, the US, and Europe. It is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The group operates through five segments : Elastomers & Performance Plastics, Infrastructure & Social Solutions, Electronics & Innovative Products, Living & Environment Products, and Life Innovation. The Elastomers & Performance Plastics segment manufactures styrene-based resins, acetic acid-based specialty chemicals, and acetylene based organic chemicals. These products are used to manufacture packing materials and home electrical appliances. These organic materials are also used as raw materials to manufacture functional resins such as transparent polymers, and heat resistant resins. These functional resins are, in turn, used in manufacturing of mobile phones, car stereos and products for optical use. The division also produces acetic acid-based specialty chemicals, including vinyl acetate, and water soluble polymers like poval. These specialty chemicals are used as raw materials in adhesives and paints. Acetylene based organic chemicals include chloroprene rubber used in producing high voltage cables and anti-static products in the automotive industry. The Infrastructure & Social Solutions segment consists of calcium carbide and fertilizers, which have been its core business, along with cement and special cement additives. Also, Denka contributes to the development of civil engineering and agriculture thorough producing plastic products. The group’s Omi Plant (Niigata Prefecture) produces calcium carbide by utilizing abundant limestone deposits in Mount Kurohime, a mountain adjoining the plant whose proven recoverable reserves of limestone are estimated to be some 5 billion tons, as well as its in-house hydroelectric power plant. Denka also deals with the various types of plastic drain pipes TOYO-DRAIN, which is used in civil engineering and agriculture. It contributes to developing infrastructure and making full use of firm land through supplying the best products. The Electronics & Innovative Products segment offers a range of product mix, such as functional ceramics developed through extensive utilization of our technologies both organic and inorganic as well as the macromolecular technologies. It also manufactures, by combining these functional ceramics, electronic and electrical components whose product value is enhanced through the incorporation of such materials. Another product line of the business is the products for manufacturing processes like electronic component transfer materials. In the field of semiconductor related products, the business offers a range of products including: fused silica filler for semiconductor encapsulating materials; highly thermally conductive plates and other components such as a metal substrate DENKA HITT PLATE and a ceramic substrate DENKA AN/SN PLATE that are instrumental in heat dissipation in the field of power electronics (power supply control); peripheral components like carrier tapes and cover tapes that are instrumental in the mounting process of electronic parts; and an adhesive agent for temporary holding TEMPLOC that facilitates the laminating process of glass. The Living & Environment Products segment provides a range of eco-friendly products that help people live comfortably, such as rain gutters and other building materials, industrial tape, food packaging materials, functional films, and synthetic fibers for wigs. The Life Innovation segment is working to expand this business field by providing products and services that promote the health of people the world over, in addition to influenza vaccines, diagnostic reagents, and macromolecular sodium hyaluronate preparations.
