Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP or 'the company'), is one of the largest comprehensive printing companies. The company is engaged in printing of books and magazines; supply of a range of products including packaging products, decorative materials and energy-related components, supply of display components, optical films and electronic devices, among others. It has operations in Asia, Europe and North America. As on March 31, 2016, DNP had 40 sales bases and 56 production plants in Japan, 25 sales offices in 15 countries and a region, and 14 overseas production plants in eight countries and a region.
The company operates in two business lines (printing and beverages) which are further categorized into four segments: information communication, lifestyle and industrial supplies, electronics, and beverages.
The information communication segment includes four businesses, including publishing solutions, marketing communications, information security/BPO and imaging communications. The publishing solutions business products include magazines; books; dictionaries; free newspapers and magazines; public relations magazines; textbooks; DVDs; planning and production of multimedia software; hybrid bookstore network, education and publications distribution. The marketing communications business includes catalogs, calendars, point-of-purchase materials, flyers, pamphlets, posters, event planning and execution, store design, customer service center operation, online businesses, household budget-tracking application and energy-efficient digital signage. Information security/BPO business includes personalized mail, smart cards, magnetic cards, subscriber identity module (SIM) cards, transparent hologram ribbon, merchandise vouchers, bank books and business forms. The imaging communications business includes dye-sublimation thermal transfer printing media, dye-sublimation photo printer, ID photo kiosk and direct transfer ribbons.
The lifestyle and industrial supplies segment has three businesses, including packaging, lifestyle materials and industrial supplies. DNP develops and manufactures a variety of packaging materials for processed foods, toiletries and pharmaceuticals, universal design products, barrier film for packages, eco-friendly packaging such as biomass plastic film, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and preform, aseptic filling systems for PET plastic bottles, packaging for Japanese-style space food, medicine packaging for daily behavior monitoring systems. It also produces a range of lifestyle materials such as residential interior materials (floor and wall coverings); automotive interior materials; exterior materials for buildings; decorative materials for stores and offices; automotive interior materials; surface materials for household appliances and interior coverings for railway cars. The industrial supplies business offers transparent barrier film, photovoltaic module components; bus line sheet used in photovoltaic cells and pouch for lithium-ion battery.
The electronics segment includes display components and electronic devices business. DNP's display components include liquid crystal display (LCD) color filters; large-scale photomasks, touch panel sensors, optical films used for displays, electrode film for capacitive touch panels and display system for ultra-short focus projector. The company's electronic devices business include semiconductor photomasks; master template for nano-imprinting; hard disk drive suspension; lead frames for compact semiconductor packages; metal substrate for light emitting diodes (LED) light; camera module, image enhancement LSI; near field communication (NFC) module; electronic paper display system; and micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS) products.
DNP operates its beverages segment through its subsidiary, Hokkaido Coca-Cola Bottling which is engaged in the manufacturing and sale of soft drinks.
