(Crane or ‘the company’) is a provider of highly engineered industrial products primarily to chemicals, power, oil and gas, aerospace and defense, general industrial and consumer related end markets. Through the fluid handling segment, Crane provides highly engineered fluid handling equipment such as valves, lined pipe and instrumentation for critical performance applications that require high reliability. The segment offers process valves and related products, commercial valves and other products. Process valves and related products include on/off valves and related products for critical and demand applications in the oil and gas, chemical, power and general industrial end markets. It has manufacturing locations, sales and service centers across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. The segment is also engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of commercial valves and other related products to non-residential construction, general industrial and municipal markets. It has manufacturing facilities in the UK and China, sales offices in continental Europe and the Middle East and distribution facilities throughout Canada. The other products offered by the company include pumps and related products for water and wastewater applications in the industrial, municipal, commercial and military markets. It has facilities in the US, Canada and China. As of December 31, 2016, the fluid handling segment had an order backlog of US$228 million and reported revenue of US$999 million or 36.4% of the company’s total revenue. The payment and merchandising technologies segment is comprised of two businesses: crane payment innovations (CPI) and merchandising systems. The CPI business includes the former payment solutions business of the company and MEI. It provides high technology products serving five global vertical markets: retail, vending, gaming, financial services, and transportation. The payment systems solutions for these markets include coin accepters and dispensers, coin hoppers, coin recyclers, bill validators and bill recyclers, and cashless systems. The merchandising systems business is primarily engaged in the design and manufacture of vending equipment and related solutions. The products offered by the business include a full line of vending options, including those for food, snack, coffee, and cold beverages. The products are sold to vending operators and food and beverage companies throughout the world. The business also offers solutions including vending management software, cashless, and online solutions. As of December 31, 2016, the payment and merchandising technologies segment had an order backlog of US$94 million and reported revenue of US$746 million or 27.1% of the company’s total revenue. The aerospace and electronics segment supplies critical components and systems, including original equipment and aftermarket parts, for commercial aerospace and military aerospace, and defense electronics industries. The segment’s products and services are segmented into six businesses, including sensing and utility systems, fluid management, power solutions, landing systems, cabin systems, and microwave solutions. Furthermore, the segment’s customer base includes virtually every major aircraft and engine manufacturer, as well as seat manufacturers and major top-tier integrators. Key aftermarket customers include leading global airlines and the US Defense Logistics Agency. As of December 31, 2016, the aerospace and electronics segment had an order backlog of US$353 million and reported revenue of US$746 million or 27.1% of the company total revenue. The engineered materials segment manufactures fiber glass reinforced plastic panels for the transportation industry, in refrigerated and dry-van trailers and truck bodies, recreational vehicles (RV), industrial building applications. In addition, it manufactures panels for food processing, restaurants and supermarket applications for commercial construction industry. Engineered materials sells the majority of its products directly to trailer and RV manufacturers and uses distributors and retailers to serve the commercial construction market. Its manufacturing facilities are located in Joliet, Illinois; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Florence, Kentucky and Goshen, Indiana. As of December 31, 2016, the engineered materials segment had an order backlog of US$16 million and reported revenue of US$257 million or 9.4% of the company total revenue. The company has business presence across the North American, South American, European, Asian, and Australian markets. It operates manufacturing facilities in the US, the UK, Switzerland, China, Germany, Taiwan and France. Crane classifies its geographic operations into five regions: the US, Canada, the UK, Continental Europe and Other International. In FY2016, the company generated 64.4% of its total revenue from the US region, followed by Canada with 13%, with the UK with 10.2%, Continental Europe with 6.5%, and Other International with 5.9%.
