The company operates its business through four segments: Electricity Transmission, Electricity Distribution, Wheeling - Domestic and Others.
In FY2016, the Electricity Transmission segment reported revenues of USD223.7 million, which accounted for 63.1% of the company's total revenue. In FY2016, the Electricity Distribution segment reported revenues of USD11.4 million, which accounted for 3.2% of the company’s total revenue. In FY2016, the Wheeling - Domestic segment reported revenues of USD119.5 million, which accounted for 33.7% of the company’s total revenue.
CEC owns and operates around 1,000 kilometer (km) of 220 kilovolt (kV) and 66 kV transmission lines, 540 km of optic fiber on power lines, 250 km in trenches, 41 high voltage substations and 80 MW (megawatt) embedded thermal generation facility.
The company operates its businesses through CEC Africa Investments Limited (CEC Africa), CEC Liquid Telecommunications Limited (CEC Liquid Telecom), Realtime Zambia and KANN Utility Limited (KANN).
CEC Africa is an investments holding company, engaged in developing, financing and operating power infrastructure projects across sub-Saharan Africa. It also provides access to an African power platform with assets across sub-Saharan Africa and has a pipeline of both green field and brown field power projects in development across Africa.
CEC Liquid Telecom is a joint venture of the company, which owns and operates a long haul broadband fiber. CEC Liquid is engaged in the provision of product services through wholesaling of national and international fiber bandwidth capacity, terrestrial internet bandwidth and lease of dark fiber for both short and long haul, locally and internationally, and with access to submarine fiber cables.
Realtime Zambia is engaged in the provision of internet services and private leased circuits using optic fiber technology. KANN is a 75% subsidiary of CEC. It holds 60% equity in Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Limited (AEDC), which is a power distribution company in Nigeria and has a franchise for distributing electricity in four states, comprising the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, Niger State, Kogi State and Nasarawa State.
The company also owns CEC-Kabompo Hydro Power Limited, created to develop the Kabompo Gorge Hydropower Project, a hydroelectric power generation project.
