Vehicle sellers consist primarily of insurance companies, banks and financial institutions, charities, car dealerships, municipalities, fleet operators and vehicle rental companies.
In addition, Copart offers vehicle sellers a range of services, such as online seller access, salvage estimation services, estimating services, end-of-life vehicle processing, virtual insured exchange (VIX), transportation services, vehicle inspection stations, on-demand reporting, department of motor vehicles (DMV) processing, flexible vehicle processing programs, and dealer services.
Further, in the US, Canada, Brazil, the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Ireland, Spain, and India, the company sells vehicles primarily as an agent and derive revenue primarily from fees paid by vehicle sellers and vehicle buyers as well as related fees for services, such as towing and storage. In the UK, the company operates both on a principal basis, purchasing the salvage vehicle outright from the insurance companies and reselling the vehicle for its own account, and as an agent. In Germany and Spain, the company derives revenue from sales listing fees for listing vehicles on behalf of many insurance companies.
Copart's subsidiaries include CPRT (Europe) Limited, Copart UAE Auctions LLC, WOM WreckOnlineMarket GmbH, Copart of Arizona Inc, Copart of Arkansas Inc, Copart of Kansas Inc, Copart of Connecticut Inc, Motors Auction Group Inc, CPRT Hondings LLC, Ace Auto Parts Inc and Copart Credit Acceptance Corp.
Geographically, the company classifies its operations into two segments, namely the US, and International. In FY2016, the US segment accounted for 80.1% of the company's total revenues, followed by International with 19.9%.
