The segment produces tires under the Continental, Uniroyal, Semperit, Barum, General Tire, Viking, Gislaved, Mabor, Matador, Euzkadi, and Sime Tyres brands. The segment has 75 locations in 47 countries. The tire segment operates through six business units: the passenger and light truck tire original equipment; the passenger and light truck tire replacement business consisting of EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), the Americas (North, Central and South America), and APAC (Asia and Pacific region) business units; commercial vehicles tires; and the two-wheel tires. As of December 31, 2016, the tires segment sold more than 150 million tires and reported revenue of EUR10,717.4 million or % of the company’s total revenue. The chassis and safety segment of Continental develops and produces technologies which increase safety and improve vehicle dynamics. The product portfolio includes electronic brake and advanced driver assistance systems, which warn of imminent dangers and intervene to assist with steering as well as with braking and vehicle dynamics. This segment operates 112 locations in 22 countries. The chassis and safety segment comprises four business units, vehicle dynamics, hydraulic brake systems (HBS), passive safety sensorics (PSS), and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). As of December 31, 2016, the chassis and safety segment reported revenue of EUR8,977.6 million or % of the company’s total revenue. The interior segment develops and produces components and systems to optimize the use of information in vehicles. It has 105 locations in 25 countries. This segment operates through five sub-business units: instrumentation and driver human machine interface (HMI), infotainment and connectivity, intelligent transportation system, body and security, and commercial vehicles and aftermarket. As of December 31, 2016, the interior segment reported revenue of EUR8,324.7 million or % of the company’s total revenue. The company’s powertrain segment offers a broad portfolio of systems and components, from gasoline and diesel injection systems, including sensors, actuators and tailor-made electronics, through to fuel supply systems, engine management and transmission control units, down to design solutions for hybrid and electric drives. This segment has 94 locations in 22 countries. The segment operates through five business units, engine systems, transmission, hybrid and electric vehicle, sensors and actuators, and fuel and exhaust management. The engine systems business unit is engaged in the development and production of innovative system solutions for environmentally friendly and sustainable combustion engines. The product portfolio includes system and component solutions for gasoline and diesel engines, control units for engine management in commercial vehicles, as well as turbocharger and exhaust gas after-treatment technologies. The transmission business unit specializes in control electronics for automotive transmissions for all classes and applications. Products portfolio includes stand-alone external and add-on control units to mechatronics fully integrated into the transmission including sensors and electric or hydraulic actuators. As of December 31, 2016, the powertrain segment reported revenue of EUR7,319.5 million or % of the company’s total revenue. Through the ContiTech segment, Continental develops and produces rubber and plastics based functional parts, components and systems for the automotive industry, the printing, and mining and commercial vehicle industries. It also develops products for the machinery and plant construction, aviation and aerospace, and railway engineering industries. The segment operates through nine business units: air spring systems, Benecke-Kaliko group, compounding technology, conveyor belt group, elastomer coatings, industrial fluid solutions, mobile fluid solutions, power transmission group, and vibration control. As of December 31, 2016, the ContiTech segment reported revenue of EUR5,462.5 million or % of the company’s total revenue. The company classifies its geographic business operations into five regions: Europe (excluding Germany), North America, Asia, Germany, and Other countries. In FY2016, Europe (excluding Germany) accounted for 28.6% of the company’s total revenue, followed by North America with 25.6%, Asia with 21.2%, Germany with 20.7%, and Other countries with 3.9%.
