Consolidated Edison, Inc. (Con Edison or 'the company') is one of the leading investor-owned energy companies in the US. The company provides a range of energy-related products and services to its customers through its regulated subsidiaries. The company's regulated subsidiaries include Consolidated Edison Company of New York (CECONY) and Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R); and the competitive energy business subsidiaries include Consolidated Edison Solutions, Consolidated Edison Energy, and Consolidated Edison Development. Con Edison's principal business segments are: CECONY's regulated utility activities; Con Edison's competitive energy businesses and O&R's regulated utility activities. CECONY's regulated utility activities segment’s principal business operations are its regulated electric, gas and steam delivery businesses. It provides electric service to approximately 3.4 million customers in all of New York City (except a part of Queens) and most of Westchester County, an approximately 660 square mile service area with a population of more than nine million. It also delivers gas to approximately 1.1 million customers in Manhattan, the Bronx, parts of Queens and most of Westchester County along with operating the largest steam distribution system in the US by producing and delivering 19,979 million pounds (MMlb) of steam annually to approximately 1,649customers in parts of Manhattan. During FY2016, CECONY also delivered 56,745 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, 153.3 million dekatherms (MMDt) of gas along with the total sales being 305.4MMDt. As of December 31, 2016, the CECONY’s regulated utility activities segment recorded revenues of $10,165 million, a decrease of 1.6% compared to FY2015. Con Edison's competitive energy businesses segment sells electricity to retail customers, provide energy-related products and services, and develop, own and operate renewable and energy infrastructure projects. It pursues opportunities through three wholly-owned subsidiaries: Con Edison Solutions, Con Edison Energy and Con Edison Development. Con Edison Solutions primarily sells electricity to industrial, commercial and governmental customers in the northeastern US and Texas along with residential and small commercial customers (mass market) in the northeastern US. Con Edison Solutions also provides energy-efficiency services, procurement and management services to government and commercial customers including the design and installation of lighting retrofits, high-efficiency heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and other energy saving technologies. During FY2016, the company owned renewable energy projects predominately in Massachusetts and California with an aggregate capacity of 44megawatt (MW) alternating current (AC). In FY2016, the company sold a total of 9,843 million kWh. Con Edison Energy provides services to manage the dispatch, fuel requirements and risk management activities for 4,014MW of generating plants and merchant transmission in the northeastern US owned by unrelated parties and manages energy supply assets leased from others. The company also provides wholesale hedging and risk management services to Con Edison Solutions and Con Edison Development. Con Edison Development develops, owns and operates energy infrastructure. The company focuses on renewable electric production projects and the output of most of the projects is sold under long-term power purchase agreements (PPA). During FY2016, renewable electric production projects totaled 1,098MW (AC) in operation and 433MW (AC) under construction.The Con Edison's competitive energy businesses segment recorded revenues of $1,091 million in FY2016, a decrease of 21.1% over FY2015. O&R regulated utility activities segment delivers electricity and natural gas to customers. It operates through two wholly-owned utility subsidiaries: Rockland Electric Company (RECO) and Pike County Light & Power Company (Pike) which provides electric service to approximately 300,000 customers in southeastern New York and in adjacent areas of northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania, an approximately 1,300 square mile service area. O&R also delivers gas to over 0.1 million customers in southeastern New York and adjacent areas of northeastern Pennsylvania. O&R, RECO and Pike owns various transmission and distribution facilities which include 532circuit miles of transmission lines, 15transmission substations, 62 distribution substations, 85,514 in-service line transformers, 3,913pole miles of overhead distribution lines and 1,764miles of underground distribution lines. During FY2016, O&R delivered 5,735million kWhs of electricity and 24 MMDt of gas. The O&R's regulated utility activities segment recorded revenues of $821 million in FY2016, a decrease of 2.8% compared to FY2015.
