Companhia Brasileira De Distribuicao (CBD) is a large retailer in Brazil offering both food and non-food products at its stores. The company operates retail stores under various banners such as Pao de Acucar, Minuto Pao de Acucar, Extra Hiper, Extra Super, Minimercado Extra, and Assai, in Brazil. It also conducts e-commerce business through www.extra.com.br, www.barateiro.com.br, www.partiuviagens.com.br and www.cdiscount.com.br websites in addition to the neighborhood shopping center flag Conviva (www.conviva.com). As of December 31, 2016, CBD operated 904 stores, 76 gas stations and 155 drugstores in 19 states and the Federal District of Brazil with a total selling space of 1.74 square meters. It operates 23 distribution centers and warehouses and 1,135 points of sale located in six Brazilian states and the Federal District. In addition, the company opened 30 new stores in FY2016, including 14 Minuto pau de Acucar, 13 Assai, two Pao de Acucar and one Extra minimarket. The company operates through two operating segments: food retail and Cash and carry. The food retail segment consists of sales of food and non¬food products to individual consumers. It also includes the revenues related to rentals of commercial spaces. The segment offers food and non-food products through supermarkets, hypermarkets and neighborhood stores. The food products offered by CBD include non¬perishable food products, beverages, fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, cold cuts, dairy products, cleaning products, disposable products, and personal care products. In some cases, these goods are sold in the form of private label products at the company’s food retail stores. Non-food products include clothing items, baby items, shoes and accessories, household articles, books, magazines, compact discs (CDs) and digital versatile discs (DVDs), stationery, handcraft, toys, sports and camping gear, furniture, mattresses, pet products, gardening and also electronics products, such as personal computers, software, computer accessories, and sound and image systems. CBD operates supermarkets under the banners Pao de Acucar and Extra Supermercado; hypermarkets under Extra Hiper banner; and neighborhood stores under the banners Minimercado Extra and Minuto Pao de Acucar. The company also sells these products through its websites, www.paodeacucar.com.br and www.extra.com.br. The retail food segment also includes non-food products the company sells at its drugstores, including medications and cosmetics, and non-food products and services offered at the gas stations. As of 31 December 2016, the segment operated 134 Extra Hiper 185 Pao de Acucar 194 Extra Super 284 Minimercado Extra and Minuto Pao de Acucar stores. In FY2016, the segment reported net operating revenue of BRL26,967 million or 65.1% of the company’s total net operating revenue. The cash and carry segment sells food and some non-food products to resellers, intermediate consumers and retail customers through the banner Assai. As of 31 December 2016, the segment operated 107 stores. In FY2016, the segment reported net operating revenue of BRL14,487 million or 34.9% of the company’s total net operating revenue.
