Columbia Power Corporation (Columbia) is a Canadian energy company that develops and operates power project investments for the Province of British Columbia on a joint venture basis with the Columbia Basin Trust (CBT). Through its joint venture partners, the company undertakes power generation, transmission and distribution projects in the Columbia Basin. The company operates through six power generation units: Arrow Lakes Generating Station, Brilliant Dam and Generating Station, Elko Project, Brilliant Expansion Generating Station, Waneta Expansion Project and Arrow Lakes Boat Ramp Projects. Columbia Power's Arrow Lakes Generating Station is a two-unit low head Kaplan turbine hydroelectric facility with a maximum capacity of 185 megawatts (MV), located adjacent to the BC Hydro Hugh Keenleyside Dam impounding the Arrow Reservoir and discharging into the upper Columbia River. The company's Brilliant Dam and Generating Station is a four-unit Francis turbine facility with a combined capacity of 140 megawatts. It is located on the Kootenay River, three kilometers upstream of the confluence with the Columbia River. The dam, power plant and related assets are owned by Brilliant Power Corporation. Columbia Power's Elko Project is located on the Elk River in the southeast corner of British Columbia approximately 60 km southeast of Cranbrook and 25 km south of Fernie. The Elko Dam & Generating Station contains two vertical axis Francis turbines with a combined design output of 12 MW and licensed flow capacity of 25.5 cubic meter per second. The company's Brilliant Expansion Generating Station is a single unit, 120 MW Kaplan turbine facility located on the Kootenay River adjacent to and 160 meters downstream of the Brilliant Dam and Generating Station. This facility is located approximately 0.5 km (kilometer) from Brilliant Terminal Station. Columbia Power's Waneta Expansion is a project engaged in the construction of a second powerhouse adjacent to the Waneta Dam on the Pend d'Oreille River south of Trail, British Columbia. The expansion project shares the dam's hydraulic head and makes use of water flows. The rights to use this hydraulic head are held by Waneta Extopansion Power Corporation, a company formed jointly by Columbia Power and CBT to develop, construct and operate the project. This project produces over 335 megawatts of power. The company's Arrow Lakes Boat Ramp Project consists of three boat ramp projects on the Arrow Lakes Reservoir, which includes construction of a new ramp at anderson point, replacement of the nakusp ramp, and upgradation of the existing edgewood boat ramp. The corporation sells power to FortisBC and BC Hydro Columbia Power through its subsidiaries operates in Canada.
