The company's Switches are used within buildings in local-area networks (LANs) and across great distances in wide-area networks (WANs). Cisco's switching products are designed to offer many forms of connectivity to end users, workstations, internet protocol (IP) phones, wireless access points, and servers, and also function as aggregators on LANs and WANs. The company's products include fixed-configuration switches, modular switches and storage switches. The company’s fixed-configuraiton and modular switches include products such as optics modules, which are shared across multiple product platforms. The switching portfolio also includes virtual switches and related offerings. Its switching systems employ technologies such as Ethernet; Power over Ethernet; Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE); Packet over Synchronous Optical Network; and Multiprotocol Label Switching. In FY2016, the Switching category reported revenues of $14,746 million, which accounted for 29.9% of the company's total revenue.

Cisco offers a range of Service offerings, including technical support services and advanced services. Technical support services help ensure that Cisco products operate efficiently, remain available, and benefit from the most up-to-date system software. These services help customers protect their network investments, manage risk, and minimize downtime for systems running mission-critical applications. Advanced services are part of a comprehensive program that is designed to provide responsive, preventive, and consultative support of Cisco technologies for specific networking needs. The advanced services program supports networking devices, applications, solutions and infrastructures. Cisco's NGN Routing products are used to interconnect public and private wireline and mobile networks for mobile, data, voice, and video applications. The company's NGN routing portfolio of hardware and software solutions consists primarily of physical and virtual routers, and routing and optical systems. These solutions are designed to meet the scale, reliability, and security needs of its customers. The company offers a range of routers, from core network infrastructure and mobile network routing for service providers and enterprises to access routers for branch offices and for telecommuters and consumers at home.
